Graphics Printing

Does anyone have any tips on the best way to print photos?

I have a Brother Printer MFC-J5620DW with the corresponding Linux driver installed.

I always seem to have a lot of trouble printing jpegs especially from Shotwell.

Thanks in advance.

What do you mean by "trouble printing"? Do they print but quality is poor or don't print at all?

A couple of things you can try. First as you are using Gnome did you try running it in X.org mode rather than Wayland (or vice versa)?

You might also try running Shotwell from a terminal and see if there are any errors when printing.

Alternatively you could try printing from GIMP. if it prints from there it is a Shotwell problem, if not then it is a printing issue.

Wayland or X.org is the same. At the moment no prints at all when printing jpegs, but printing pdf or docs is no problem.

So you get the same result from each application, not just Shotwell?

If you check the preview before printing do you see anything there?

Did you see any errors when running Shotwell from a terminal?

Photo printing..... It's not as simple as it should be. I feel your pain. At least it isn't printing, I've wasted ink and photo paper when trying to make some prints. I tried to look at your printer specs, but I wasn't sure if you had 2 paper trays or just the one. I know on my printer that I have 2 trays. One tray I use for normal paper, and the other tray I keep photo paper in it. When printing, sometimes you need to make sure you have the paper type and tray correct. I've had similar issues where it wouldn't print, and I had to play with various paper type and tray settings. Have you tried changing these settings in the print dialog or options? For me paper size, papery type and paper source have to match up perfectly. I use a combination of gnome photo's (gnome image viewer), shotwell, photo college, and other programs.

I managed to print from Shotwell. I started it from the command line - there were no errors. My printer has 2 trays and you do have to specify the correct one, but I had also done this previously. So happy that it works now, but not sure what changed. Still have to see if it works from the GUI.

That's good news. maybe you got an update that fixed an issue.
